Somebody once told me that in introvert is someone who gets energized from spending time alone, while an extrovert needs company to feel good. I'm an extrovert in that i love being around others - being around people makes me happy. But alone time is exquisite. Alone time is like the delicacy which you cannot often afford, or the fruit which comes in season so rarely as to be brain liquifyingly delicious when you finally can enjoy a morsel. Well, with every moment of my life spent either at work with kids whose craziness is rubbing off onto my psyche or with my dear family whose quirky sanity bathes away the accumulated psychopathies. So "alone time" consists of driving 17 minutes back and forth to work five days a week. That's why i want to keep my car clean.
Anyway... um... i got two whole hours of alone time today. Karen took the cuties to our favorite orchard and called me after i'd gotten most of the way through American Beauty and all the way through the last of my brie cheese. Mmmm, brie. So i want to thank Karen with an earthquake of thanks measuring off the Richter for letting that happen!

It also occurs to me that i made three food based references so far in my post. It seems like i talk a lot about food. I never used to like food. I saw it as a system of getting calories into my system so i could spend them doing things like breathe and climb trees. But now i really like very good food. Fresh bread. Paella. The spaghetti sauce i make with garlic, olive oil, tomatoes and salt and pepper. Oh man, my mouth is watering just thinking about it even though i'm not in the least bit hungry. I told Karen that maybe i should call my blog "The Accidental Epicurean". Actually, i said reluctant instead of accidental, but i like accidental better. Plus, it's all pretentious sounding. And i may be conceited and have a monstrously enormous ego, but i'm sure not pretentious.
