Computer stuff.

There's a picture of my new (used) video card core. There's 956 million transistors on that shiny square of silicon. People, that's nearly a BILLION little electronic doohickeys. I just actually shuddered thinking about how crazy that is. So that thing is the most complex bit of silicon -- probably the most complex bit of technology -- i've ever seen. Plus, it's fast. My old, temperamental video card liked to freeze in 3D games, but was awesome in everything else, so it'll be going into our HTPC (Home Theater Personal Computer) where it will display movies and TV and... maybe lightweight games?

Now, also, all of our irreplaceable files are securely stored on a hard drive which is... um... in my car. But it'll be somewhere safer soon.

Also also, i've been getting used to getting all withheld taxes back at the end of the year, since i used to claim only myself as a dependent. But last year i declared everybody, so we would have more money for $4.80 gasoline and diapers. So how come this year we're getting another stupidly large tax refund? Are we really that poor that the gov'mint needs to subsidize us? Not that i'm complaining... :)

Hey man… thats kewl, but the human brain is WAY faster than your wimpy video card (is that true?)!

I wish that I could get subsidized, I think Lauren and I show we make like 24… something something not that much bleh, on paper. Clearly we are “Rich” by some families standards, who’s only working member has a job at McDonalds for example.

Well, I am going to a rather long (3 to 6 hour) counseling session to try to sort my head out after the brain damage I have collected over the past three weeks. I should already be on my way but lo and behold there are a few inches of Ice on my car, and even though its new it is not impervious to the power of nature. Come on defrost!

Well good, no GREAT to be back!!! Ill email you soon eh?

Oh the human brain is a far more capable processor than that mere bit of ingeniously adulterated, carefully rearranged sand.

A decent home computer at this point has about the computing capacity of an insect brain. Our brains are massively (MASSIVELY) parallel, flexible, large, energy efficient, and we have, you know, souls.

A quote to illustrate the opposing point of view:

The question of whether a computer can think is no more interesting than the question of whether a submarine can swim. —E. W. Dijkstra

You have to answer this silly question because it keeps spammers off my site:
What are the last three letters of Juanito's name?
